We received an email from Wayne Holdsworth, Football Victoriaโs Club Development Manager
โI would greatly appreciate it if you could please pass on my heartiest congratulations to coach Brendan and Captain Jaime of the St Bedes Under 16โs last Sunday. I coached the Ormond under 16โs( St Bedes opponent) and I whilst the result was a close One and left many many disappointed Ormond players and parents I was very impressed by the way your team handled the victory. It could easily have been a result where the boot was on the other foot and I would have hoped that our boys would have behaved like your team did. Brendan whilst a young coach was a gracious winner and all during the game and afterwards whilst very excited was extremely respectful of the way the opposition felt. A special congrats to Jaime Neville Young. We had done a lot of homework on your players to ensure we could pull off an upset and obviously containing Jaime was a big part of the plan. I simply do not think we could have reduced his effectiveness even if we had put 8 blokes on him, he rucks at a ruck rover height, he runs, kicks beautifully, tackles and leads from the front. However the one thing that impressed me most was after the game, when I approached him to congratulate him and he was swamped by many, many ecstatic players he broke free to stop, shake my hand accept the congratulations and congratulate our boys. In my role at Footy Vic I see many instances that are in direct contrast to this behaviour but on Sunday it restored my faith.โ
Brendan Neville for those that do not know plays in our U19 team, yet also coaches the U16โs! Last Saturday Brendan made his debut in the senior team and played that well that he was named amongst the teamโs best. It says a lot for the club and parents when we have players representing us in this way. Well done to Brendan , Jamie and all the boys in the Under 16โs.
