St Bedes Mentone Tigers moved to second position on the VAFA B section ladder following a solid four quarter performance against ladder leader Old Essendon Grammar on Saturday.

Senior coach Luke Beveridge was impressed with his side’s relentless pressure and running game as they came from behind at three quarter time to kick seven goals in the final term and win by 12 points. With a best on ground performance by Andrew Scafidi and the evergreen David Kinsella controlling the back line and Brendan Brennan in the ruck the tigers were able to tackle Old Essendon head on and knock off the highly fancied home side from the top of the ladder.

Former VFL players Sam Anstey and Ben Phibbs featured in the best players, Phibbs sealing the game with a brilliantly roved goal in time on. Steve McLaughlin and Chris Richards impressed in their senior debuts. In Under 19’s Chad Ryan and Mitch Bodinaar kicked 14 and 9 goals respectively as the tigers kicked a club record 45 goals to completely demolish Whitefriars by 275 points. The tigers return to Brindisi St this Saturday to take on Old Melburnians and will be keen to consolidate their ladder position.
