In perfect conditions at Bulleen, St Bedes / Mentone Tigers had a resounding win over Old Trinity by 105 points to consolidate 3rd position on the VAFA ‘A’ Grade ladder
The Tigers, after dominating the first quarter only took a 13 point lead into the break, however, with Mick Hazell in everything around half forward they converted their ascendency onto the scoreboard with an 8 goal lead by half time
With Luke Wintle in control in the ruck and around the ground, the Tiges played fast, skilful football winning in most positions and running the Trinity defence ragged
After kicking 6 goals in the third quarter and putting the game beyond doubt, the Tigers unleashed one of their trademark last quarters kicking 9 goals 4 to round off their biggest win thusfar in ‘A’ Grade
Sam Anstey racked up possessions and was back to his best with 4 quarters of non-stop run and carry football and Sam Hecker was also back as a valuable contributor in the forward line after missing the first two rounds
The Tigers’ Reserves went down by 27 points while both U19 teams and the Club XVIII all had very good wins by 94, 21 and 84 points respectively
This week the Tigers take on local rivals Old Brighton in the AFL Community Football round at Brindisi Street in what promises to be a close encounter
