St Bedes / Mentone Tigers downed bottom team University Blacks by 86 points with a withering 9 goals 11 behinds last quarter.
After an even first quarter, the Tigers stepped out to a 21 point lead by the middle of the second with Ryan Power controlling the ruck.
The home team looked set to steam away but Blacks, belying their position at the foot of the table, fought back to within 4 points at half time.
The second half, however, was one way traffic as the Tigers applied enormous pressure around every contest and outscored Blacks 15 goals to 3 with Anthony Scafidi impassable in defence and Sam Hecker returned as dangerous as ever to the forward line.
The Tigers, as ever, made the last quarter their own with 20 scoring shots to 4 to run out deserving winners with James Tyquin having an outstanding on-baller’s game
SBMT turn mid-season well-placed in second position with 7 wins and 2 losses but will have to bring their best form to the second half of the season to be up there with the best as the serious business now begins.
The U19s and Club XVIIIs had solid 14 and 12 point wins and are both also second on their respective ladders at the half way point.
