Congratulations to Michael ‘Mouse’ Wintle from the St Bedes / Mentone Tigers who plays his 150th VAFA game against De La Salle. The youngest of the talented Wintle trio Mouse joined the Tigers in 1999 and immediately showed his talent when he finished second to his brother Paul in the U19 B&F. Since then he has become a dual senior premiership player and VAFA State Representative. In 2001 he finished runner up in the Tigers Best & Fairest, this time by a whisker to his other brother Luke, before claiming it the next year and again in 2005. Probably the best testament for Michael came during the 2004 season when he won the Ted Turner Award for the club’s most courageous player. Through that period Mouse battled serious illness. His courage to continue to play, and play at such a high standard, was inspirational. The dreadlock one also starred for the Tigers in the epic 2006 one point C Section Grand Final win over Ajax He was rightly awarded the Ritterman Medal for his match winning efforts. After a 12 month sojourn in Morocco as a surfing instructor, musician and vocalist of some renown, Michael returned mid 2008 to boost the Tigers A Section premiership aspirations. History shows another medal to his collection and a famous Grand Final win. This season has been no different. He continues to rack up countless possessions and thrill those at Brindisi Street with his skill and courage.
