St Bedes / Mentone’s Luke Wintle last Saturday recorded yet another milestone in his illustrious VAFA career.
Luke Wintle joined the St Bedes/Mentone Tigers as a 17 year old in 1997. State selection, club best & fairest awards, premiership flags, club captain (8 seasons) and recognition with life membership by his club and peers whilst still playing show what a magnificent player Luke is. The highlight for Juice must have been leading the Tigers to its three consecutive premierships culminating in the 2008 A Section victory. He was recognized as the best player a field by the umpires in both the 2008 A and 2007 B Section premiership wins. When Luke stepped into the Tigers senior side he was named the Best First Year Player. Following seasons saw the Doug Paterson Memorial Award, the Michael Hecker and the William Groves Memorial Trophy on two occasions go to Juice. A player that those at Brindisi Street acknowledge as the finest VAFA footballer the club has produced and one with a record which we hope will continue to speak for itself when he again represents the Association in 2011.
