It was another early start at Mordi-Brae for round 3. The boys were a little casual in the warm ups but with about 5 min to start they flicked the switch and went into game mode. The first quarter was very even with both teams scoring, there were some patches of play that showcased some of the drills the boys have been practicing, however we needed to link up with more handball if we wanted to score. The 2nd quarter saw us take more control of the game and keep Mordi-Brae goalless. The midfield started winning more clean possessions and feeding the ball to the forwards while the backs played tight defensive footy. At half time the focus was to man up when they had the ball, play on from the mark when we were having long range shots at goal and handball, handball, handball. And that is exactly what the boys did. There were some really exiting passages of play where the boys ran to receive and were rewarded with the possession which created scoring opportunities. The 2 Charlies were great at attacking the ball and created lots of scoring chances. Max flew for every contest which created crumbing opportunities for our roving forwards, Campbell, Luke and Gabriel who were always in the right spots. Darcy and Tyson played great captains game and worked really hard to hold their positions in the middle, they were well supported by Liam who made sure the ball didn’t pass his wing. Hervey, Adrian and Ryan had terrific games in the engine room and played very attacking football. The backs were like a wall, hardly anything passed them. Mitch and Jerome were strong over the ball, while the runners Will and Tommy cleared the ball out of defense. Both Josh’s didn’t let their man win a contest, which is a defenders first job. In the end the boys had a great win, and we have plenty of the things still to practice which will make the boys even stronger.
