Last year Hervey and his family packed up and went on the trip of a lifetime driving up to the very top of the East Coast of Australia. Two weeks into their trip Hervey fell off a mechanical bull dislocating and severely breaking his elbow. This would be bad enough however the family were in the middle of nowhere 2 ½ hours east of Weipa. By the time paramedics reached Hervey they were worried that he may lose the use of his arm. He was airlifted to Weipa but there was no suitable doctor to treat his injury, he was then airlifted to Thursday Island where his dislocated arm was put back into place. He was then further air lifted to Horne Island where the Royal Flying doctor was waiting to fly him to Cairns hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile his father Shane coach of the Tigers U8s this year had driven the rest of the family 11 hours straight to meet up with Hervey and his mum at Cairns Hospital. Following operations on his injured arm Hervey and the rest of the family somehow managed to continue on their trip. Due to the extent of Hervey’s injuries to his arm he was not expected to be able to play footy this year, however showing great determination and courage Hervey returned to play in round 1. In true “Hervey” fashion he kicked 2 goals and was instrumental in his teams round 1 victory. Welcome back Hervey.
