St Bedes/Mentone Tigers congratulates Old Xaverians on their well-deserved premiership win. On what was a tough day at the office for the Tigers, Xavs had first use of the breeze and eked out a 20 point lead at the first break. The tone of the game was set early with tight checking and constant stoppages the order of the day. Unfortunately, the Tigers could not get going, despite Hiwad Shaikaib and Tom Garside defending stoutly and Peter McGettigan looking dangerous up forward. The Tigers kicked 2 goals in the second quarter but Xavs responded with 2 of their own. The third quarter was all Xavs who kicked 8 goals and held a commanding lead at the final break. To their credit, the Tigers fought it out, demonstrating some of the ball use that had got them to the Grand Final. Our thanks to all our supporters, friends and the many well-wishers from other clubs. Time now for the Tigers to reflect on what was, acknowledge all those who made and continue to make contributions to our outstanding club, and on the warm summer afternoons to come, plan for the successes of 2014. Go Tigers!
Congratulations Old Xaverians
