Hello everyone. It is an exciting time at the start to the brand new 2011 football season.
My name is Seamus McGettigan and I am the new President of the SBMT football club. Let me start by thanking past President Matt Beasley and his committees for their excellent work and many achievements over the past 5 years. We plan to build on the strong foundations they have put in place.
The focus of 2011 is “Energy and Urgency” – getting things done right and getting them done now. To that end we have welcomed several new members to the Committee whose energy and enthusiasm has revitalised the whole group.
SBMT is one of the very few clubs to field teams from Under 9s through to seniors. We also have a very strong connection to our local AusKick group. It is this committee’s intention to strengthen the bonds between all levels of the club. To this end there will be more interaction between all parties – shared social function, senior players taking junior trainings, mentoring programmes, etc. It is a proud boast of our club that the Senior Captain started at our Auskick programme and has been with the club all the way. We are looking for many more players to follow his footsteps.
A club of our nature and size depends on its member, volunteers and sponsors for its very existence. Please do not sit back and wait to be asked to help. We can always do with any assistance you may be able to offer. Each team requires boundary and goal and umpires, time keepers, water carriers, trainers as well as coaches and team managers. If you can assist in any of these areas on a regular or even ad-hoc basis please put your hand up.
Shortly the football club will be regaining occupation of the Brindisi St and Southern Rd facilities from the respective cricket clubs. Moving back in is a huge job – putting all the flags and pictures back up, restocking the canteens, bar and kitchen with equipment and consumables. The more people that can help on handover day the easier it is for everyone concerned. Please keep an eye on the website for the date. Any assistance offered will be gratefully accepted.
Volunteers are also required in the canteen and in the club room, behind the counter and behind the bar. The club will be running a Responsible Serving of Alcohol (RSA) programme very shortly and anyone interested in attending will be most welcome. Details will be on the website very shortly. We are currently looking for a Canteen Manager to oversee the stocking and operations of the canteens at Brindisi St and Southern Rd. The person we are looking for will not necessarily man either canteen but will be responsible for stock levels and ensuring equipment is available and operating.
Another position we are looking to fill is the Under 19s 2nds coach. Working closely with the Under 19s coach Des Ryan this person will be responsible for the 2nd U19 team on weekends.
If you are interested in either of these positions or in assisting in any capacity whatsoever please contact me via return email.
Another area where the club is looking to expand and for assistance is Sponsorship. It costs a lot of money and effort to put 17 teams on the park safely and well equipped each weekend. Sponsorship helps immeasurably and eases pressure on registration and other costs. If you, your company or any associates are in a position to help in this regard it would be greatly appreciated. Sponsors of all sizes and types are welcomed and acknowledged. Once again any queries in this regard can be made through the website or to me directly.
The 2011 committee is determined to build a special sense of community at the club. We ask that you avail yourself of every opportunity to socialise and make new friends be it at AusKick on Friday nights/Saturday mornings, or at the games on Saturdays and Sundays and in the clubrooms afterwards.
All committee members are always available to discuss any matter with the club members. This season has started promisingly with good numbers at pre-season training for the senior sides and solid registration numbers for the MSJFL teams. We are keen and committed to making 2011 a success on and off the field and look forward to your participation and assistance.
Go Tigers!
Seamus
