The seniors completed the home and away series with another win to remain undefeated, whilst the reserves had a big win over second placed Ormond. The seniors, Reserves and U19’s all play second semi finals next Saturday whilst the U17’s and U15’s play Grand Finals on Sunday. The U12’s put up a great fight in their Grand Final defeat against East Sandringham. East Sandy were undefeated and were challenged all the way by the boys. The seniors defeated third placed Ormond by 23 points in their Round 18 clash at Mentone Oval on Saturday. The win sees the Tigers remain undefeated after the home and away series. The clash between the top of the table Tigers and third place Ormond was one of the best games of the season. Both teams went goal for goal in the early part as Ormond showed the Tigers that they were a genuine premiership contender.
The early lead went to Ormond before the goals to Luke Beveridge and Andrew Hayes allowed the Tigers the slimmest of margins at quarter time. The Tigers backline was brilliant with Anthony Scafidi once again dominating along with Steven Kidd and Steve Zakic. They continually frustrated the Ormond attack and rebounded into attack. The Tigers intensity at the ball was too much for Ormond. Midway thru the second quarter cracks appeared as the Tigers piled on the pressure. Andrew Hayes was at his brilliant best off half forward. His solo efforts and marking resulted in a series of goals. Luke Terrell was dangerous as was Andrew McMahon. Paul Brennan on the ruck played his best game of the season. The Tiger big man won nearly all the centre clashes and his strength in the clashes helped the ball spill free for Michael Wintle and Aaron Sawers, Sawers was another who was in brilliant form on his wing as was Andrew Scafidi who mopped up around the ground. Both Scafidi boys are in tremendous form. The third quarter was a beauty as Ormond fought back to within a goal before the Tigers steadied to hold a 14 point lead at the break. The final quarter saw the Tigers once again put the shoulder to the wall as they cracked Ormond mid way through the quarter. Goals again to Hayes, Luke Wintle and two to full forward Luke Terrell sealed the game. The Tigers reserves who are also on top finished with a resounding 137 point win against the second placed Ormond side. The Tigers have a selection dilemma next week with a number of players pushing for selection for next weeks second semi final against Ajax at Trevor Barker Oval, Sandringham.
