Mentone Reserve improved facilities Forum – Wednesday 4 May 2016 – 6.00pm – 6.45pm – clubrooms Remo Street.
This is an open invitation to players and parents to attend a short meeting on proposals put to the Club by Kingston Council and to seek your feedback / support or rejection. The sub-committee will then present their recommendation to the Board for a decision. Kingston has been working on a masterplan for the Mentone Recreation Reserve for almost two years but they have indicated that its completion is some time off. The Club has put forward a vision on what we believe the reserve and surrounds should be for the future and whilst this has some support in council, a future council (after this October’s elections) will decide on the speed or lack thereof in future years. The current Victorian Government whilst in opposition made a $1M dollar commitment to our club towards improving our facilities. Council has also been working on a restoration plan for the Soppert Pavilion Grandstand which is in serious decline structurally.
They have now proposed combining the restoration works of $0.5M with the State Government commitment of $1M plus a further $1M for stage one. A rough outline of Stage one is as follows and includes the partial closure of Remo Street:- Renovate the visitor’s change rooms; Knock down the current office, ladies toilets and outside gent’s toilet;
Build out to the middle of Remo Street; Build two new female change rooms which can be opened up to one and can be further opened up as a break out social area; Build new ladies and gents toilets accessible from both the social room and to outside patrons; Build two new office spaces; Build a meeting room. If you are attending, please email or call Peter Davis 0417 357 634.
