The President of the Victorian Amateur Football Association, Nick Bourke, has been appointed to the Board of AFL Victoria.
Mr Bourke, who completes his term as VAFA President this year, has had a long involvement with Amateur football as a player, a coach and administrator. He joined the VAFA Board in 2002, was elected President in 2007 and is the current Chairman of the Australian Amateur Football Council (AAFC).
VAFA Chief Executive Michael Sholly praised the appointment and said the VAFA, as well as AFL Victoria, will benefit.
“Nick goes to AFL Victoria with a wealth of expertise and fully understands the importance of the grassroots to football in our state. He also understands the enormous contribution of the VAFA to community football,” Mr Sholly said.
“Nick has made an enormous contribution as a board member, particularly over the last three years as our President. We will miss his leadership, but realise that he can be of enormous help to our Association in his new position.
“There are a great many issues facing football in our state and we can be confident that the VAFA’s voice will be heard. With Andrew Dillon a long-time VAFA player, also on the board, our Association has never been better placed with football’s decision-makers,” Mr Sholly said.
