After finding themselves 14 points down at three quarter time, St Bedes/Mentone Tigers rattled home with 5 unanswered goals to defeat University Blues by 19 points in their final match of the 2012 season. With both Luke Wintle and Blake McGrath on the sidelines, the Tigers mixed up the ruck division with Michael Barnhoorn, George Rowlands and Jaryd Robertson sharing the load effectively. Chris and Simon Richards made outstanding contributions around the ground and Lewis Stutterd provided spark in the forward line. But the man who caused the real damage was Darcy Holden. The elusive forward finished with 5 goals and a best on ground performance. He was ably supported by George Rowlands and Shaun Glennen up forward, and when regular defender Damien Waters pinched a goal for himself, the Tiger crowd new it was a good day. In a year when many of the pundits had written them off early, the Seniors finishes with a very respectable 9 wins and 9 losses and a place in the Premier division in 2013.
The Reserves were competitive early but were overrun in the latter of the match. Despite a tough year the Ressies have had great spirit and are the spiritual leaders when it comes to making football fun.
