St Bedes / Mentone Tigers beat the undefeated Collegians by 18 points in their top-of-the-table clash at VAFA Headquarters on Saturday.
In conditions reminiscent of football past, the Tigers played tough, body-on-body footy to make every possession a contest and with Pete McGettigan again a livewire around the ball led by 6 behinds at half-time with only 4 goals scored for the half.
The Tigers with constant pressure and classic wet weather football added 5 goals in the third quarter and, with Brett Collins in everything, led by 26 points at the last break.
The Tigers scored the first goal of the last quarter and, through constant rain, held Collegians to run out winners.
Next week the Tigers journey to Toorak Park to take on Old Xaverians who have been the benchmark of ‘A’ Grade for the last decade.
