Venturing to the wide expanses of Old Carey in Bulleen was always going to be a challenge, against a side aiming for its 3rd win on the trot. Two frenetic goal scoring periods by Old Carey, 3 goals at the outset and 6 goals early in the 3rd term, pretty much proved to be the difference. The game and scores were otherwise pretty even, with both backlines blanketing their respective forwards and counter-attacking relentlessly. “Rat” Wintle, with his mix of creative and defensive work led the way, really well supported by Todd Bastion, “Robbo” and the rest of the crew. On-ballers “Mouse” Wintle, in vintage form, the super-consistent Pat Keane and “hard at it” Chris “Richo” worked hard to penetrate the Old Carey defence. Our forwards were regularly forced wide, reducing goal-scoring potential. Debutant U19’s Trent Pastura gained confidence as the game progressed, in the 2nd half proving effective “in the guts” with his pin-point passing. Final scores: Old Carey 14.14 SBMT 6.8. Onward and upwards from here!
