They say a week is a long time in football, and that it’s played 90% above the shoulders, well both those acronyms proved to be correct this week, as the Tigers with a terrific week of preparation and a switched on attitude before the game had come to play, and play they did to record a comprehensive 19 point victory over the top of the table University Blacks. Reserves went down but not disgraced whilst the U19 Premier side came home strong over a tough Old Scotch. In U19 South the side has clearly closed the gap on top of the table Oakleigh going down by 22 points.
After a fairly even first quarter, the Tigers stamped their mark on the game in the second with some high pressure hard running football to go into the main break with a pretty handy 23 point lead.
Over the past two weeks the third quarter had proved to be our nemises and this week was no different, as the Blacks with the move of playing five midfielders befuddled our coaching group and the players to kick the first 6 goals of the term and take the lead showing why they were the top side, but again before the break this ever improving Tiger side dug deep, kicked a couple of telling goals to go into the last break with a handy 8 point buffer.
The last stanza was again to prove that the 2013 version SBMT are like the Tigers of old we’re strong and we’re bold, as we kicked another 5 goals to the Blacks mere duo to come away with a morale boosting brilliant team orientated victory.
Having now beaten the 3 sides who sit above them on the ladder this side has shown the competition that with belief, enthusiasm and ability they are a force to be reckoned with.
A million dollars can not explain the reasons for the improvement in Jaryd Robertson who was again or best player, Pat Tyquin aka known as Homicide has lost nothing in his short sojourn overseas, Chris Mangoni’s last quarter had to be seen to be believed, while our courageous Captain Simon Richards as always led from the front and the boys followed. All in all a “SENSATIONAL” DAY.
The Reserves tried hard played some good footy but in the end were overwhelmed by a pretty strong Uni Blacks unit. Big Sammy Nicholls very good, as were Mouse Wintle and Lewie Stutterd.
Great come from behind victory by the Under 19 Premier side against a very strong Old Scotch with all their APS guys in the team, and although going down the Under 19 South side were most competitive against top of the table Oakleigh
