The seniors snapped into action right from the outset against Old Camberwell. The team cracked Camberwell open early, popping thru seven first quarter goals and 26 for the match. The reserves had a great win in a very high standard match whilst the U19’s recorded their first loss of the season against Oakleigh. A freight train went through Mentone with St Bedes Mentone Tigers wrecking Old Camberwell by 90 points. There was carnage everywhere.
Third placed Camberwell came into the game with high aspirations yet unlike other weeks the Tigers had their goal kicking boots on right from the first bounce. Coach Luke Beveridge pulled on the boots for the first time this season and kicked four goals including a sparkling banana kick which iced the centre. Beveridge left the ground midway through the third having done enough on his return. Best player to half time was Nick Corda across half back. Corda dominated with 17 possessions to half time. Anthony Scafidi entered the fray after the break to also dominate the game.
Best a field for the tigers was half forward Matthew Hilton who kicked six, whilst Peter McGettigan Sandringham kicked five.
State squad players in Sam Anstey, Paul Groves and James Tyquin were all in sparkling form as they absolutely crushed Camberwell around the packs. The performance was by far the best of the season for the Tigers. To top it off rising star Aaron Sawers slaughtered the hapless Wellers in the last quarter with another fine performance around the packs. Firey Tim McColl in the centre initiated many of the Tiger attacks winning 13 contested balls for the game in another outstanding performance. The Wintle brothers, Luke, Paul and Michael all dominated their parts of the ground. Camberwell had no answers for the talented tiger line up.
The senior and reserves sides both remain undefeated and poss an enormous threat to the competition with the depth of talent at the club.
Snap, Crackle, Pop!
