The senior side recorded an outstanding win by 57 points over Old Xaverians at Brindisi Street on Saturday to consolidate 2nd position on the VAFA ‘A’ Grade ladder while the U19s had a resounding 32 point win away over the undefeated De La Salle to go to the top of the U19 Premier Division ladder.
The Tigers were tigerish from the outset kicking 3 goals before Xavs could blink and, with Paddy Nicholls a goaling-kicking target up forward, turned at quarter time with a 19 point lead after kicking into a 3-goal breeze.
Fierce for the contest as ever, SBMT stretched their lead to 41 points with their defence gelling superbly and forming the first line of offence with wave after wave of attack.
The Tigers consolidated after half time in the cold and wintry conditions and then, with Sam Anstey running the lines and in everything all day, stretched their lead in the last quarter to a well-deserved win over an Old Xavs outfit struck with mid-season injuries to a number of key players
SBMT next play ladder-leaders Old Collegians who will be keen for revenge after being well beaten by the Tiges in the wet at VAFA headquarters in mid-May.
