The Under 19’s found the travel all the way out to Ivanhoe just a bit far, and despite a gallant effort fell short to the tune of 18 points against another one of last year’s finalists. Captain Jordan Pastura led by example, and he received solid support from a bullocking Oscar Adorno and big Ben Hubeek.
The Reserves proved last week’s result was a minor abbheration and played a consistent 4 quarters of football to convincingly beat Hampton Rovers to the tune of some 60 points. The experienced Luke Terrell and Michael Wintle were damaging up forward with 7 and 4 goals respectively, young Brett Denton impressed in his first game for the season as did Damien Waters and Trent Pastura.
Facing a bit of a danger game against impressive first Round winners Hampton Rovers the Senior side was keen to put the disappointment of the previous week behind them. A pretty confident first half saw us in front by 30 points at the main interval. But then for some inexplicable reason we went to sleep in the championship quarter to find ourselves a small margin down at the orange break. Some harsh words from Coach Dwyer sparked the lads back into reality where an action packed last quarter saw us play some great football to kick 9 goals and come away emphatic 40 point victors. Luke Velutto aka Kowalski showed the value of having a big man up forward, something we have lacked the last few years by kicking 9 goals and being a fine focal point. The Tyquin Brothers continued their early season dominance, with Pat Kean also getting plenty of it.
