After a pretty even first quarter where neither side gave an inch, Old Scotch then took total control to totally dominate proceedings through the second and third quarters to open up what seemed to be a match winning 32 point lead at the lemon break.
Through this period the Tigers made some inexplicable skill errors by hand and foot and appeared to be flat and a little bit overawed by the magnitude of the occassion. Only kept in the game by the stirling efforts of Tommy Tyquin and first gamer Lachlan Mirams who was battling manfully in the Ruck against two veritable giants.
Mick Dwyer who had every right to be angry at three quarter time with his side all but gone, was his normal calm self, rolled the dice with some smart positional changes.
His encourageing words seemed to inspire his charges right from the first bounce of the final stanza the attack on the football and continued pressure forced Scotch into error, throwing caution to the wind the Tigers peppered the goals, to kick 6-8 for the term and by being strong and bold were able to come away with a most meritious victory that would have made the ANZAC’S proud and restore the equilibrium to our season.
History was created for the Tyquin Family with the three boys James, Patrick, and young Tom playing together in a Senior team for the first time, with all three being named in the best players.
Father and ‘Club Chair’ Mark with proud mum Leonie were seen beaming after the game.
James Murnane did a terrific job in nullifying Scotch’s best forward, Lachlan Miriams showed he will be a valued asset to the club, while skipper Simon Richards led by example, and Pat Liston after a 2 year hiatus started to show his touch is returning.
The Seconds and Thirds both also recorded good wins to make it a very pleasant ANZAC weekend for the club.
