St Bedes/Mentone Tigers will reload following their 41 point loss to Old Xaverians in the Premier second semi final. The Tigers will play the winner of the Old Scotch versus University Blacks first semi final.
The second semi commenced with what now seems the customary arm wrestle. Eventually Xavs got the first major and it looked like the Tigers may waste their use of the southerly breeze. However, Michael Barnes opened the account with a running goal and the Tigers clicked. Peter McGettigan kicked 3 goals in an exciting 15 minutes and Simon Richards kicked truly from the boundary to give the Tigers a four goal lead at the first break.
The second quarter also opened as a tight contest. Xavs eventually made use of the breeze and the Tigers missed a couple of gettable set shots. Old Xav’s kicked a set shot after the half time siren to go to the long break a goal up. The third quarter was dominated by Old Xavs who kicked four and kept the Tigers goalless. While the Tigers stemmed the bleeding in the final quarter, the game was lost and the Xavs finished deserved winners and booked their place in the Grand Final.
The Tigers will play in the Preliminary Final at Sportscover Arena (Elsternwick Park), Melways 67 D3, on Saturday 14th Sep, commencing at 2:10PM.
