The seniors thrashed AJAX in the return clash of last years grand finalists at the Brindisi St oval on Saturday. Inaccurate kicking had somewhat plagued the tigers in recent times but in front of large crowd the tigers rectified this area in their game posting a near perfect 9 goals to the jaccas 4 by quarter time. The star of the first term was young Chris Mouritz who in a 5 minutes period midway through the quarter kicked 3 goals to continue his recent strong form. Captain Luke Wintle in his new role in the ruck combined with onballers Sam Anstey and Tim McColl applying relentless pressure on the visitors causing turnovers that the young running tigers pounced on and extended their lead to over 10 goals by the main break. In stark contrast to the clash of both teams only 3 weeks ago,the tigers backliners Nick Corda, Dean Porter and Jordan Lynch were miserly denying the jaccas goals and thus supplying their forwards with opportunities to score. The tigers poured on the goals during the second half with Sam Hecker 5 high flying Paul Groves 3 and young brothers Robbie and Justin Swayn excelling as the home side totally outplayed the opposition to win by 153 points. Coach Luke Beveridge was ecstatic after the final siren and acknowledged his teams effort as they established themselves in second place on the ladder.
Full credit to the Ajax players and officials who despite the heavy defeat came in to a man and supported the after match hospitality. Well done!
