Last Saturday saw a great game of senior amateur football played at Brindisi St in front of a crowd of 500. The day commenced with our final Tiger Coterie luncheon for the season attended by over 100 members and guests. In its inaugural year we signed up 87 members into the Tiger Coterie. The idea was to attract paid up member to the club and offer them in turn value for their membership. The $100 donation allowed the member entry into 3 Saturday afternoon senior home game luncheons to enjoy an all inclusive lunch/drinks and be entertained by a guest speaker. The concept has proved enormously successful and will continue next season in the same format. We will limit the membership to 100 thus enabling people the opportunity to hold a value for money membership and ensuring the club is financially sound. On Saturday over and above the money we received when the initial membership was offered we received just on $1000 from guests attending the event. Furthermore we received $400 through the sale of raffle tickets. This was a fantastic result and I would personally like to thank everyone who joined the Coterie this year and look forward to enjoying you company next year. It was a fantastic event and I would like to thank everyone involved on the day, particularly Kevin & Fran Lynch, Tony & Jo Norman for their assistance with the magnificent food and drinks we enjoyed. I would also like to thank our guest speaker Brian Tobin who spoke of his outstanding international career as a player and later an administrator in the game of tennis. I was fascinating to say the least. Finally I would like to acknowledge our MC Mark Beasley and to the ladies who prepared the wonderful salads, thank you.
This week we host the Annual Ladies Match on Friday night at Brindisi St. This promises to be an entertaining event to say the least. I have been privileged to watch the Tiger Mum’s be put through their paces under the watchful eye of “super coach” Phil Vawdrey over the past 6 weeks and their improvement has been phenomenal in that short period of time. Let’s all get along on Friday night and support the girls. Good luck to all the stars participating in the game and bring home the trophy to Brindisi St.
On last weeks “Footy Show” we again hit the jackpot when the man (tipped back in February by one astute judge of the game) as having the potential to mark of the year saluted by winning the club $500 on “Almost Football Legends” with his speckie taken a couple of weeks ago. Congratulations to Jesse “The Campervan” Windebank for his feat and to our cameraman Paul Newport who over the last two seasons has won $2000 for the club.
Finally an important date to remember is the 12th August when we will hold a club function at “Comoecean” in Parkdale. The event will be an opportunity for everyone, both seniors and juniors to mix in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy the musical talents of a couple of our senior players. The venue has been chosen to allow everyone the chance to dress up and importantly socialize without being excessively expensive. It is difficult to appease everyone’s wishes in a club as large as ours however I believe that this night will prove to be success. Tickets will be available this weekend at a cost of $60 which includes Beer/ Wine / Champagne and Soft drinks as well as an assortment of Mediterranean food throughout the night. There will be a marquee erected in the courtyard on the night, however there will only be 160 tickets available so get in early!
Good luck this week to all of our teams (especially the mums).
Matt Beasley, President
