Dear SBMT Community,

Currently we’re all facing some huge challenges the likes of which we’ve not experienced before. The Victorian Premier has closed the schools as of yesterday and from tonight there are further restrictions to the way we conduct our daily routines. Clearly the highest priority is the health of our community so we urge all our SBMT club members to abide by the rules being set down by the government and to continue exercising good hygiene, social distancing and remain home where possible.

We had hoped that as a club we would be celebrating our new facility this weekend. Since it became apparent that this would not be possible we considered having small preview sessions in the new club rooms for each team to enjoy one by one. Unfortunately to gather together even in this small way is just not possible yet, so we need to wait a little longer to christen the bar and celebrate together. When footy is back up and running, so will the functions!

We are also continuing with the fit-out of our new facility and need to raise $25K for the next stage so it will look the part once we are open for business! Tax-deductible donations can be made via https://asf.org.au/projects/st-bedes-mentone-tigers-afc/.   Proper recognition will be made for all contributions so if you can spare some dollars, please help.

Last weekend we saw the AFL suspend their season until further notice, the AFLW also ended without a grand final being played. There have been some calls coming in from both junior and senior sections of our club in relation to the proposed way forward for SBMT’s season 2020. At this stage all leagues are aligned with the AFL recommencement date of 31 May.  Please be assured that as more information comes to light, we will be informing all of our SBMT community through our social media platforms and newsletter.

With a potentially altered season, there have been questions asked about subs already paid by players. Once the way forward is clarified by VAFA & SMJFL, the SBMT Board will meet to go through the possibilities for subs. SBMT is required to pay affiliation fees to both the VAFA and SMJFL so the club will be guided by the requirements and advice from the leagues in relation to this. As soon as there is some clarity about season 2020 SBMT will be able to navigate a way forward with clear plans and procedures put in place.

In the interim coaching is continuing in a variety of ways, with connection to players online to encourage a commitment to keeping fitness levels up in preparation for round one when it happens. Thanks to our amazing coaches and also to all players who have embraced this change to our method of training. Your resilience and versatility has been terrific.

We are all taking on-board many changes to our regular way of life, and for some this is more stressful than for others. If you are finding the challenges too great, please get in contact with us at the club to assist you to find the services that can help. Email  or  for further assistance.

We will get back together eventually to celebrate footy, our community and all that is great about our beloved Tigers! Stay kind, be patient and keep healthy.

Go Tigers!
