The seniors and reserves easily beat Hamton Rovers in both the seniors and reserves on Saturday. But for poor kicking the margin in both games would have been far greater. The U19’s had a great win over third place Old Ivanhoe to consolidate their position whilst the Club 18 lost in a good encounter with Mazenod. The senior matches were a no love lost encounter with the Tigers came to David Street determined to settle some old scores.
Rovers won the toss and kicked with a strong breeze. The Tigers mid field was dominant as Sam Anstey and Firey Tim McColl dominated play. Both had numerous possessions as they gave the tiger forwards plenty of opportunities. At quarter time the Tigers cursed inaccuracy was there again as they kicked 3 goals 10 points to lead by just eight points at the first break. Once again the tiger’s backline was outstanding with Steven Kidd, Brett Collins and David Kinsella dominating their opponents and starting numerous forward attacks. Wingers James Tyquin and Anthony Scafidi were both prominent as they recorded two of the first quarter goals for the Tigers. Up forward Jon Kane was the stand out with his pace and attack on the ball. The Rovers were under sized and out muscled by a more formidable opponent. By half time the Tigers had kicked 18 behinds to lead by 39 points at the main break. The star of the quarter had been Luke Wintle with two goals and a number of strong marks. Aaron Sawers entered the fray just before half time. He is an excitement machine as his pace and brilliant overhead marking straightened the Tigers up after half time. The tigers had a last quarter avalanche with an eleven goal burst. Full forward Luke Terrell kicked five last quarter goals to finish with eight for the game. Full back Paul Wintle even chipped in with a magnificent running goal as did his brother who started and ended a chain of handballs with a spectacular running goal. Sam Anstey finished with 38 possessions to be best field closely followed by Tim McColl who had 28. Young forward Dean Porter impressed again with his marking and creative play.
