Well what a success Seniors Day was. With the exception of the Under 10’s all games had senior players helping out. It was an opportunity to remind everyone that the club has a pathway for our young guys. One where they can share mateship and a love for the game for many years. Thirteen of the 22 players in the senior side last Saturday played under age football for us. Lots more played in the Reserves, U19’s and Club 18 teams as well. Apology though to John Depp’s team. They slipped under the radar, we promise senior players will be at the game this Sunday. Whilst mentioning the Under 10’s, our young brigade are showing some consistency with three players achieving 50 game milestones. Alex Boulton 50 games on Sunday, whilst Scott Misso and Jack Eldred both achieve 50 games this Sunday. That’s a good three and a half years of footy and some yet to turn the ripe old age of 10 years. Burn out is not on because they love their footy and their club. Look out Michael Tuck that record is looking shaky! I’m sure other teams are having milestones. If only they would tell the scribe!
The old free sausage sizzle was back at the club on Sunday night and it was terrific to be down there and see everyone enjoying themselves. One of the biggest things about these nights is the opportunity for our young players to receive recognition. It must be great to be clapped by all in the room as they accept their awards. A few chests expand amongst the proud parents too.
Seniors coach Luke Beverage spoke about his view of the day and how impressed he was with the teams that he saw. Such is the presence of Luke that while he spoke for approximately ten minutes about the day and his own junior days not a murmur could be heard from the Sunday night crowd. Well done to all involved. By the way the seniors and reserves are at Mentone this Saturday. Both teams are chasing their eleventh straight win! Why not come down and spend an afternoon barracking for the seniors and see how good VAFA football is in an alcohol free environment. It’s great for the family and it’s free to get in! The U19’s are going along nicely with nine wins and second place on the ladder. Well done to O and the boys. Another useful piece of information as to how strong our club is. We have had 59 players play Club 18 this season. Some local clubs haven’t got 59 senior players full stop. Says something I think!
Asked to publish this but have no idea what it means…… Rumour has it that a club member who on Saturday was bragging about how well he would perform at Club 18 level to another washed up former star embarking on a cameo return to the playing field subsequently strained his hamstring late on Sunday night whilst running down Naples Rd away from a blue car with white flashing lights. Apparently the gents were less than happy with this member’s car parking attempt and were merely trying to catch up and offer some advice. Our dear member wasn’t all that keen to take on board the advice, but seemed more content on getting the miles into his legs for that all important return to the playing field. No clues as to his identity.
