St Bedes / Mentone Tigers Under 16 player Angie Andunga has become our first female selected to an Australian AFL Multicultural Squad named the “Medley’s†to play two matches against an Australian Aboriginal team named the ‘Woomera’s’. The Medley’s girls were all born outside Australia.
The Medley’s squad of girls from all around Australia will get together on Wednesday 8 February for an in house two day skills and tactics program before playing their first match on Friday 10 February commencing at 3.30pm at VU Whitten Oval and will then enjoy the Women’s fixture match Western Bulldogs V Adelaide Crows which commences at 7.35pm. The squad then continues onto a second skills and tactics day on Saturday 11 February before playing a second match against the Woomera’s in Geelong on Sunday 12 February. Congratulations Angie.
The club is actively seeking to expand junior girls’ teams in the SMJFL through each of the age grades and will also field a Senior Women’s team in the VAFA this season. Registrations open in mid-February, stay tuned to the website for details.
