We Remember Mentone Anzacs
Private William Penny (Service number 6427) was a well-known Mentone footballer and popular identity in the district who was killed on active service in Belgium when fighting with the 22nd Battalion in the AIF in September 1917. Private Alexander Smith also played for Mentone FC and lost his life.
